A Meanderwithmeg Year In Review
The past twelve months have afforded me plenty of opportunities to think about how it feels to travel. I love to try and deconstruct this for you in a way that I hope you can either relate or take inspiration.
Basically, I’m all about the feels.
In case you missed, here’s what was hot on Meanderwithmeg in 2016. (Cue the warm and fuzzies).
Pre-Trip Feelings
We’ve all been there. You’ve booked a flight and are now secretly feeling the twist of your knickers as you panic about your upcoming trip. Check out what I’ve got to say on the subject of what it’s like to take your first baby steps into the world of travel:
- Embarking on your first solo trip
- How does it feel when the homebird flies the nest?
- The urge to just get up and go
- What it is like saying goodbye
- Which method of travel will suit you the best?
- Contemplating a guided tour? Here’s what I have to say about them.

Travelling Solo
It’s one thing to plan a trip with your besties but another to work up the nerve to go-it alone. These articles should hopefully get your head into game changing mode. Realise you can travel alone if that’s what your heart wants!
- How to break the ice and meet people
- Should we feel awkward dining alone? (Psst, the answer is no)
- Why I travel alone (and you should too)
- Why I think solo female travel is more important than ever. And it really is.

On The Road
Hmm, you’re mid-way through your trip and you have to admit to yourself that something’s not quite right. You may feel like a total failure at this point as clearly, you repel travel. But before you get into a real funk about it and book your return flight home, have a read of some of these blogs to help you understand you are not alone.
- Surviving those first week blues (and damn, we’ve all been there)
- That peculiar moment when you feel guilty for travelling. What’s that all about?
- Those moments you realised your best laid plans were all for nothing. (But that’s ok!)
- How to spend your birthday abroad.
- Remembering to put yourself first when you travel
- Connecting with community whilst you travel.

Choosing A Life Of Travel
Whether it’s down to money, responsibilities at home, your career or something else, choosing to travel for a period of time is a huge deal. So take a browse through these articles if you feel like you may want to make a change to your current lifestyle and see what it’s like over in my world. I promise it’s not scary.
- What I’ve learned from five years – blimey! – of travel
- Am I travelling or do I now live abroad? I call this mastering the art of slow travel
- Is it ok to have a lifestyle rather than a career? What do you think?

If there is anything you’d like me to tackle in a future blog – any burning questions you have about travel or a concern about solo travel – I’d love to hear from you!
